Art Streiber recently photographed pro basketball player Angel McCoughtry, the 6-foot-1-inch forward for the WNBA team the Atlanta Dream, for ESPN The Magazine‘s 2014 Body Issue.
“The Body Issue is the magazine’s annual homage to the outrageously perfected anatomy of America’s professional athletes,” he explains. “For this year’s issue, I was fortunate to spend a few hours with Angel McCoughtry.
“Set designer Tim Barrett of Atlanta had built us an all-silver basketball court: the floors, walls, backboard, and ball were all a reflective, metallic silver,” Art continues. “We lit Angel with hard strobe sources in order to show off her incredible musculature, and Nancy Weisman, the senior deputy photo editor at ESPN The Magazine, gave Angel a few pointers on how to fly through the air and hide the parts of her body that can’t be seen in the magazine.”
He adds, “Angel was a bit nervous initially, but after about five minutes she started soaring across the court completely nude and mostly uninhibited.”
